Andrey Rublyov / Andrei Rublev / Andrei Roublev / Андрей Рублев (1966) 2 x DVD9 RUSCICO

By opinion poll of the members of the European Academy of Film and Television (1995), this motion picture was recognized one of the world's ten best films (8th place). Its original title – "The Andrei Passion".
The historic background – Russia in the 15th century, the princes' feuds, the internal strife. Though it in no way overshadows the film's basic philosophical message. The perennial question of "artist versus authority", if the loneliness of a genius and his ability to rise above the crowd, the problems of faith and faithlessness are examined through the prism of a life story of the great Russian icon painter Andrei Rublyov. The title part was the first film role for the outstanding Russian actor Anatoly Solonitsyn who was to become a Tarkovsky actor for many years.

Dillinger e morto / Dillinger Is Dead (1969) DVD9 Criterion Collection

Michel Piccoli stars in a tour-de-force performance as Glauco, and his job alone is filled with fascinating symbolism: he's a maker of designer gas masks. He goes home and finds his pretty blond wife (Anita Pallenberg) in bed. She pops a few pills and is never seen in an upright position again. Dinner is left out for Glauco, but it doesn't interest him and he begins cooking his own meal. While poking around looking for spices (or whatnot), he finds a package. Inside the package is a gun, wrapped in a newspaper. The newspaper's headline is about the death of gangster John Dillinger. Is this Dillinger's gun?

Ave (2011) DVD5

Ave follows Kamen (Ovanes Torosyan), a teenage art student, hitchhiking from Sofia to Rousse, a small town on the Bulgarian border to Romania. In Rousse, Kamen wants to attend the funeral of a friend from school who killed himself under unknown circumstances. On his way, Kamen meets Ave (Anjela Nedyalkova), who, as fate has it, is also hitchhiking to Rousse. At least that's what she tells him.
Once they are in a car together, Kamen is shocked when Ave begins to make up stories about him as if they have known each other all their lives. The further they travel together, the more extreme her lies become, yet although he makes clear his rising anger he can't seem to get rid of her. And beneath Kamen's conscientious surface lies a dark secret that forces viewers to reassess the comparative moral values of the two.

Brute Corps / Combat Corps (1972) DVD9

Traveling through rural Mexico on their way to a job in Central America, a small band of American mercenaries halts their journey to bivouac in the countryside for a few days. Their leader, Colonel Burckhardt (Blacula's Charles Macaulay), plans for the men to mix a bit of training with R&R as they wait to rendezvous with additional personnel. The six mercs under Burckhardt's command are a motley crew of combat vets, and they're either completely amoral or murderously psychotic.
Unfortunately for two hitchhikers - a young pacifist and his beautiful girlfriend - that "down time" comes to involve the soldiers beating the tar out of him, raping her, and setting up a vicious contest in which she becomes the prize...

Eliane Radigue – L’Ecoute Virtuose / Virtuoso Listening (2011) DVD5

A portrait of Eliane Radigue, the « Grande Dame » of long duration music.

Now in her eighties, Eliane Radigue is a justly celebrated figure in electronic music. Her work has roots in Europe's post-war avant garde, and she has been linked with the pioneers of American minimalism such as Terry Riley, La Monte Young, and Steve Reich, but her monumental meditative compositions have taken a singular path, transporting the listener into new realms of sound. In June 2011 in London, the Spitalfields Summer Music Festival paid tribute to Radigue's entire body of work, and the "Grande Dame" of long duration music was enthusiastically welcomed by a new generation of admirers young enough to be her grandchildren.
