The Cliff Richard Movie Collection: The Young Ones (1961), Wonderful Life (1964), Summer Holiday (1963) DVD9 + DVD5

The three nostalgic British musicals in the Cliff Richard Collection are a good reminder that, thanks to a few short years in the 1960s, Sir Cliff can legitimately include "film star" on his already exceptional show business resume.
The Young Ones, Summer Holiday, and Wonderful Life would make tame fare for a teen audience today, but they retain a polished and honest charm that might surprise the sharpest of cynics.

Castle Keep (1969) DVD9

In the winter of 1944 as World War II nears its end, one-eyed Infantry Major Abraham Falconer leads a group of seven battle-weary soldiers to a medieval castle on the Belgian side of the French border. The owner of the castle, the Comte de Maldorais, permits the men to be billeted in one of the castle turrets, but he urges the major not to make a stand against an expected German attack because the castle is filled with priceless art treasures.
The major's men humorously find their own pleasures and distractions in Castle Keep: one moves in with the wife of an absent baker, another zealously guards the castle's art treasures, and one falls in love with the prototype of the Volkswagen Beetle. Sense of peace is disturbed when the Germans attack and the soldiers vainly try to save the Old World treasures inside...

Roger Corman’s Cult Classics: The Nurses Collection: Private Duty Nurses (1971), The Young Nurses (1973), Candy Stripe Nurses (1974), Night Call Nurses (1972) 2 x DVD9

One of the three big staples of American sexploitation cliches (the other two being cheerleaders and stewardesses), the nurse movies of the 1970s proved popular enough that exploitation king Roger Corman did big box office with four of his entries all made in the first half of the decade (for some reason the first one, 1970's drive-in hit Student Nurses, has not been included). Shout! Factory, in their ongoing efforts to release the finest of Corman's films in excellent special edition DVD releases, wrangles up those four films for this new two-disc set, aptly titled Roger Corman's Cult Classics - The Nurses Collection.

Conte d’automne / Autumn Tale (1998) Blu-Ray

The final chapter of Eric Rohmer's 'Tales of the Four Seasons' is as sublimely warming an experience as the autumn sun that shines benevolently on the Rhone Valley vineyard owned by the central character, Magali (Beatrice Romand). The movie follows the adventures of this wiry and vital but lonely widowed mother of two after she allows two friends to play matchmaker.
This is a very ordinary love story between middle-aged lonely people who are unable to make a connection with someone else, even though they are people who have a lot to give and are far from being losers.

The Sound of Insects: Record of a Mummy (2009) DVD9

In a remote wintry forest, a hunter discovers the mummified corpse of a 40-year-old man. A diary is found near the body, detailing the man's everyday thoughts as he commits suicide through self-imposed starvation. Based on an incredible true story, and adapted from the novella "Until I am a Mummy" by Shimada Masahiko, Peter Liecthi's THE SOUND OF INSECTS is a stunning investigation into the mystery of the man's enigmatic self-destructive motivations. Taking on his point-of-view, the film presents the notebook entries as stream-of-consciousness musings on the world around him as his body dissipates, an attempt to piece together the causes of his disillusionment. With luminous cinematography of the vaulting trees that surround his tented tomb, and of hallucinated memories of the cities and people he left behind, THE SOUND OF INSECTS is a hypnotic and transcendent meditation on how the renunciation of life paradoxically reveals its beauty.

Sib / The Apple (1998) DVD5

Based on a true story.
In the poor section of south Tehran, 12-year-old twin daughters, Massoumeh and Zahra, are locked in their one-room house, kept from going outside, from attending school, from any contact with the outside world, left unwashed, barely able to speak except in gurgles, and are without friends. The father is a 65-year-old impoverished, poorly educated, unemployed religious fundamentalist, who gets handouts from people who ask him to pray for them.
The story caught the eye of 17-year-old Samira Makhmalbaf, the daughter of the famous director Mohsen Makhmalbaf. She co-wrote a loose scenario with her father, and then, in just eleven days, directed The Apple. What makes this dramatization especially remarkable is that she asked the actual people to play themselves in the movie - and they agreed.
