Second World War. Antonio Capurro, a petty thief disguised as a priest, is arrested by marshal Cottone. Later, during a bombing, the crook can get hold of the policeman's uniform, leaving him with the cassock.
Thus begins a series of comic misadventures of the two, who must escape the Nazi-fascist occupying the country and hide the Allied soldiers that are coming in secret.
Eventually, the town will be liberated and Antonio will once again escape the police officer.
