A returning soldier who was wounded in action requires extensive painkilling medication while healing and becomes addicted to heroin. He desperately attempts to hide his secret from his wife and his obtusely devoted father, while relying on his brother for financial and emotional support. The film recounts the terrible toll this addiction takes on himself and his family.
