In 1919 workers arrive by train in the middle of the Taiga in order to construct a town. They fell trees and unload bricks from the train for that purpose. The newly arrived hero Vasilij is made chief of the depot, meets hostility and has to put down corruption. Vasilij shares a cabin with other workers and a couple who sleep in a corner of the room behind a curtain. He falls in love with the woman and secretly meets her and makes her pregnant. Counter-revolutionaries try to prevent the building of the town, but Vasilij persists in felling more trees and by his example gets the other workers to join him. His relationship with the woman is discovered and the woman is beaten, bound and imprisoned. Vasilij rescues her, she flees to a beautiful modern clinic and gives birth. The counter-revolutionaries set the town on fire and kill Vasilij who meats a very heroic death in the mud. At his funeral the village kommissar holds a speech. The woman's husband tries to win her back, but she re fuses.

The second half of the film is an extended flashback, which documents the horrific sexual abuse Wei-fong suffered at the hands of her psychopathic stepfather (William Ho Kar-kui) and the resulting breakdown that led her to kill him and her other relatives.

1963. The Mondo Libero newsreel by Gastone Ferranti and other material found in Tchekoslovakia, the Soviet Union and England, became, for Pier Paolo Pasolini, the basis for a lyrical and polemical analysis of the social phenomena and conflicts affecting the modern world, from the Cold War to the Economic Boom, with commentary consisting of a "poetical voice" (Giorgio Bassani) and a "prosaic voice" (Renato Guttuso).
While Pasolini was working on editing "La Rabbia", the producer, perhaps out of political scruples or commercial motives, decided to turn the movie into a four-hand work, and entrusted Giovannino Guareschi with a part of it, following the well known journalist-like scheme "seen by right, seen by left."
Pasolini reacted with irritation to this forced cohabitation, but in the end he acquiesced, giving up the first part of his movie to make room for Guareschi's segment.

2008. We thought it would be most interesting (as well as a fitting tribute) to try to trace, after so many years, Pasolini's original work.
Starting with the poet's text and Mondo Libero's collection, we worked on the reconstruction of that first missing part, and now wish to introduce it, obviously with benefit of inventory, to today's audience.

Gilles Deleuze (1925-1995) was Professor of Philosophy at the University of Paris VIII, Vincennes/Saint Denis. He published 25 books, including five in collaboration with Felix Guattari.

Although Gilles Deleuze never wanted a film to be made about him, he agreed to Claire Parnet's proposal to film a series of conversations in which each letter of the alphabet would evoke a word: From A (as in Animal) to Z (as in Zigzag). These DVDs, elegantly translated and subtitled in English, make these conversations available for English-speaking audiences for the first time.

In dialogue with Parnet (a journalist and former student of Deleuze), the philosopher exhibited the modest and thrilling transparency that his seminal works (such as Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus) reveal. The sessions were taped when Deleuze was already terminally ill; he and Parnet agreed that the film would not be shown publicly until after his death. The awareness of mortality floats through the dialogues, making them not just intellectually stimulating but also emotionally engaging. Because Parnet knew Deleuze so well, she was able to draw him out–as no one else had–to what might be the 1001st plateau: a place of brilliance, rigor, and charm.

Fernando is not happy with his failed marriage to Victoria, while his friend Honorio, a chauvinist who is married to successful journalist Leila, suspects that the wife is cheating on him. Afonsinho is friends with both, he dreams of becoming a successful writer. Besides that, he prefers to go to prostitutes rather than having a relationship. Destry Rides Again (1939) DVD9

The town of Bottleneck is the personal fiefdom of the evil Kent, who, along with local madame Frenchy, cheats cowpokes and farmers out of their cash and property until he's in a position to extort huge fees out of cattle drovers who need to pass over Kent's ill-gotten land.
The sheriff soon ends up dead after trying to intervene on behalf of the property owner. As a joke, the town drunk is then made the new sheriff. He takes the job seriously, "I'm off the liquor. A man's got to choose between the bottle and the badge." He sends for his old partner's son, Destry, to help him out. His old partner was a tough John Wayne type, but it is mild mannered Jimmy Stewart who gets off the stagecoach.
Destry and Frenchy find themselves in love, and Destry starts gathering evidence that will send Kent and his cronies to the gallows.
