One of the very few films that plunges you into a world of characters with the same feeling of richness that you experience from a 19th century novel. The beautiful courtesan Garance (Arletty) is loved by the mime Baptiste (Jean-Louis Barrault) and the brilliant actor Frederic (Pierre Brasseur), but she finds herself compromised by her association with the nihilistic criminal Lacenaire (Marcel Herrand), and giving herself to a wealthy nobleman whom she doesn't love is the only way out of her predicament. That's just the outline of the plot! The film is in two parts with an intermission; it beautifully evokes the bright world of Paris in the last century, and the acting is superb and touching and funny. But most of all, Children of Paradise is about the theater, those who act in it and write for it, and especially those who go to it, but can only afford to sit in the cheap seats, way up in the balcony.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the Eighth Dimension! was an underground hit in 1984, later gathering a cultish following.

Half American and Half Japanese, Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller) leads the field in research into unusual and ignored sciences. He is a brain surgeon, physicist, crime fighter and rock musician. Not content to stop there his team of friends (from all walks of life) also wander the country in their tour bus as the rock 'n' roll band The Hong Kong Cavaliers.
Buckaroo Banzai has developed an Oscillation Overthruster by which he travels briefly through solid matter and into the eighth dimension. This prompts the evil Dr. Lizardo (Lithgow) to attempt to steal the Overthruster so that he might bring back an evil race of aliens trapped in the 8th dimension to conquer earth. Banzai and his rock band set out to save the planet.

Money Movers (1978) DVD9

Security firm specialised in the transport of money and other valuables becomes the target of repeated hits by armed robbers. Its owner, Lionel Darcy (Frank Wilson) is worried because the failure to secure the transports could mean the end of his business. His worries multiply when he gets anonymous tip that the firm is going to get hit from the inside. That also worries Eric Jackson (Terence Donovan), one of Darcy's trusted employees who was planning exactly the same thing for the last five years. Those events coincide with the appearance of a new, young and seemingly inexperienced employee Leo Bassett (Tony Bonner). Between 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge regime caused the death of some 1.8 million people, representing one-quarter of the population of Cambodia. Kaing Guek Eav, better known as Duch, was in charge at M13, a Khmer Rouge-controlled prison, for four years before being appointed by the Angkar ("the Organisation", a faceless and omnipresent entity which reigned unopposed over the destiny of an entire people) to the S21 centre in Phnom Penh. As party secretary, he commanded from 1975 to 1979 the Khmer Rouge killing machine in which at least 12,280 people perished, according to the remaining archives. But how many others disappeared, "crushed and reduced to dust", with no trace of them ever being found? In 2009, Duch became the first leader of the Khmer Rouge organisation to be brought before an international criminal justice court. Rithy Panh records his unadorned words, without any trimmings, in the isolation of a face-to-face encounter. At the same time, he sets it into perspective wit h archive pictures and eye-witness accounts of survivors. As the narrative unfolds, the infernal machine of a system of destruction of humanity implacably emerges, through a manic description of the minutiae of its mechanisms.

Cambodia. The time is 1972. At the height of the Pacific War, a US aircraft crashes into Cambodian mountains. The survivor is immediately taken prisoner by the local villagers. But the guy is Black... For the naive, mesmerized young child telling this story, the man's nationality, race and language don't make him an enemy or a stranger, but merely an animal that needs to be taken care of. Rithy Panh brings this story into his native land -The little Cambodian child from the ricefields, who's responsible for guarding the prisoner, is already sucked in by the Khmer Rouge ideology. Across the border, in Vietnam, war is raging and US fighters fly over his country to bomb Vietnam. Will the child be able not to kill the black man - the enemy?

The problem is that one of them (Sasha) has to go to Leningrad but another one (Zhenya) goes. Zhenya wakes up at Leningrad airport. Believing that he is still in Moscow he takes a taxi and goes home. The street name, building and even apartment number, the way an apartment complex looks the same and the key coincide completely - just typical Soviet-type 'economy' architecture. Imagine the surprise of Nadya when she enters her apartment and finds a man without trousers in her bed. What's more - Nadya's fiance also finds him there...
All of Nadya's efforts to get rid of him fail. The two of them are forced to see into the New Year together – and unexpectedly fall for each other...

Gentlemen of Fortune is about a kindergarten director named Troshkin who looks like a twin brother of a criminal with a nickname Docent (meaning "associate professor" in Russian). Docent, assisted by two other felons, steals the golden helmet of Alexander the Great at the site of an archaeological excavation. The three criminals are caught by the militia (the Soviet Union's police) but without having the stolen helmet in them. An archaeologist professor accidentally meets Troshkin in a bus and upon seeing the striking similarity between him and Docent, suggests to the militia putting Troshkin in prison as a replacement of Docent. The latter one is separated from his gang and put in another prison so Troshkin begins his mission to wring the location of the helmet from the rest of Docent's gang. Pretending to be a real convict proves to be a tough task for the amiable and well-educated kindergarten teacher, but and his kindness and pedagogical experience have an unexpected effect on th e hardened criminals...

KING was originally presented as a one-night-only special event on March 20, 1970, at an epic length of more than three hours (plus intermission). Since that time, the film has occasionally been circulated in a version shortened by more than an hour. Newly restored by the Library of Congress, in association with Richard Kaplan, and utilizing film elements provided by The Museum of Modern Art, the original version of KING can again be seen in its entirety, mastered in HD from the 35mm preservation negative.
